Professional Hands-on Training in TMS with E-field Navigation

General Information

TMS with E-field navigation is visualization of the true location and orientation and magnitude of the maximum stimulating electric-field (E-field) induced in the cortex when a TMS coil is activated on the surface of the head*.

This “Professional Hands-on Training in TMS with E-field Navigation” provides a unique opportunity for hands-on learning of the basic principles, standards of use, and clinical applications of Nexstim SmartFocus® electric-field navigated TMS in neurology and psychiatry (e.g, depression, chronic neuropathic pain, and post-stroke neurorehabilitation).

It is a 1.5-day training (afternoon on Saturday and full day on Sunday) offered throughout the year. The training is conducted in small groups of 2 participants with teaching session and ample hands-on exposure. At the end of the training participants will have learned how to run personalized TMS treatment for depression, chronic neuropathic pain, or post-stroke neurorehabilitation with Nexstim SmartFocus® electric-field navigated TMS system independently, including following steps:

  • MRI data uploading and viewing
  • Co-registration of 3D brain MRI anatomy with patient’s head
  • EMG measure setup
  • Motor mapping of APB muscle on the cortical hand-knob area
  • Analysis of motor evoked potentials to confirm the hotspot
  • Motor threshold determination
  • Targeting based on individual brain MRI image (e.g, Left DLPFC, M1, DMPFC, OFC)
  • TMS protocol setting (e.g., 10Hz rTMS and iTBS over left DLPFC for depression, 20Hz rTMS over DMPFC for OCD, 1Hz rTMS over contralesional M1 for post-stroke/operative upper limb motor rehab, 10Hz rTMS over M1 for chronic neuropathic pain)
  • Starting the treatment and monitoring with the assistance of aiming tool to ensure it is on target till the treatment ends.
